Anniversary Gifts

An anniversary is simply a meaningful date that marks a particular event. It is most commonly associated with couples as a reminder of how long they have been together. Many people give gifts on an anniversary date as a memento of their love for the other person and to celebrate the relationship between them.

Anniversary dates can be celebrated each year for dating couples, married couples, employees or any date that holds particular significance.

Traditional wedding anniversary gifts include the usual roses and chocolates. If you are stuck looking for a last minute anniversary gift for a 6 month anniversary or a 50th anniversary, you will want to make your gift unique and special. `Traditional` gifts do not show much thought or creativity. It may get you through the occasion, but it probably won`t make the recipient particularly happy.

The tradition of giving your spouse a specific gift on a specific anniversary dates back to the middle ages. For example, the traditional gift for a 1st wedding anniversary is paper. For a 10 year anniversary, its wool or copper, and for the big 50th anniversary year, gold is the standard. Of course, these conventions are often not often followed today. That is fine, though, because a thoughtful and meaningful present will always carry the day.

An engraved anniversary gift is always a great idea. Almost any item can be engraved with a name or date. Pick a unique item that reflects the recipient or the relationship. A photo with an engraved frame is inexpensive and especially meaningful. There are many online stores that will create wonderful engraved items of almost any type or interest. If it can be themed to a particular meaningful event, such as a first date, that can make it even more special.

Themed gift baskets also make great gifts. Anniversary gift baskets can be personalized, and they don not have to cost a lot. A basket can be based on a theme, such as wine, sports or hobbies - or even a first date. For the more romantic, the basket can be filled with items such as a DVD, chocolates, and a nice bottle of wine. A basket can be as large or as small as you want.

Something that can make the occasion less than special is to buy something YOU like, rather than something that recipient will like. Be careful when considering something you think you both will like. Be honest, who is going to enjoy it more?

And don`t forget to use themed ribbon when wrapping!

The best gifts for anniversaries don not have to be extravagant or expensive. A meaningful present (even if it is last-minute) will be one most appreciated and treasured.
